Donald Trump for President? Real Estate Mogul 'Absolutely Thinking About It'

October 06, 2010 9:28 AM

ABC News' Huma Khan reports: Where there's opportunity, there's Donald Trump.

The real estate tycoon turned reality TV host is thinking of a new career, again -- as president of the United States. Trump said via phone on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Tuesday that he is looking at a possible 2012 bid because "this country will not be great if something isn't done rapidly."

"For the first time in life, I am absolutely thinking about it," Trump announced.

Except, this is not the first time. Trump has been flirting with the idea for nearly two decades.

He first suggested running on the Republican ticket in 1988. A decade later, in 1999, he used similar rhetoric as Tuesday, telling NBC’s Matt Lauer: “I’m serious. I’ve seen polls come out saying I could win.” Except then, he suggested he would run on the Reform Party ticket.

In 2007, Trump floated the idea of Oprah as his running mate.

On Tuesday, he said he will run as a Republican.

If history is any guide, Trump’s chances of winning, or even coming close, are very slim. Ross Perot, another billionaire businessman who founded the Reform Party, ran for president twice unsuccessfully.

This has to be a joke. The donald is not that smart just watch his lame show.

The donald is full of himself, it would be like letterman running another jerk that thinks he knows everything.

But we elected Obama who never had done anything but quarter back others who have done things.

The Donald for president - Never Happen - Let's elect George Will? Now that would be a great choice.

Great! Maybe the US can just buy Cuba and transform the place!

I would love for Mr. Trump tell Obama "Your Fired"

Posted by: Connie Jordan | Oct 6, 2010 10:25:07 AM

I would like to hear about his platform, what he stands for, his goals for American and the American people. Who cares what he does now, no one cared that Obama was nothing but a "community organizer" who voted "present" the majority of the time while he was a new senator. So what makes Tump any less worthy of the seat of POTUS?

Mr. Trump,

Maybe you should try running for Mayor of New York. Your reputation is well known and I do believe that you care an awful lot about this city. Maybe a run for President could be a goal for your son, Barron.

It's just a thought.

Go ahead and let dummie I mean Donald duck I mean Donald Trump run for President, and tell him to holded on to that hair peice, because it's going to be a windy ride.

Posted by: gman | Oct 6, 2010 1:39:48 PM

Why not? If a community organizer with no business experience whatsoever.... can be elected president, why not Trump? Trump is very worldly, and understands what drives business and jobs....

Posted by: paul | Oct 6, 2010 4:03:36 PM

He's got brains, toughness, but is he too ego driven? Meaning his way or the highway 24/7? He has lots of potential.

Posted by: phallon | Oct 6, 2010 5:06:24 PM

George Will great idea. I second the nomination!

The man is more of a joke than Dan Quayle and more dangerous than Bush II.

Perhaps before running for president he needs to redeem is evil ways . . .

Remember the case of the Central Park Jogger . . .
Donald Trump needs to be held accountable for helping put five innocent young teenage men through 14 years of prison for a rape they never committed. He has never publicly apologized for what he did. Horrible. Here's what happened if you don't recall it. The case of the "New York Jogger" . . how could we forget, and the crime Donald did was unfathomable.

"In 1989, just days after the five 14- to 16-year-olds were arrested, Trump took out full page ads in every major newspaper in New York City calling for the restoration of the death penalty so that they could be executed. Had Trump's unwarranted call for their murder been granted, there would have been no vindication for these five children, who, as it is, spent their teenage years incarcerated. Thirteen years later, the actual rapist confessed to the crime and the convictions against the five were vacated."

You can guess what their life was like in an adult prison, and when people – like Donald Trump wreck a life, almost kill it – (could be a judge or prosecutor also . . .), they need to spend the same amount of time in prison to experience its horrors. I find this man dishonest, and disgusting.

Why not
America has had a B movie actor Ronnie Reagan.
A family heir who has never worked an honest day in his life .. GWB.
May have an Alaskan drama Queen in the WH 2012. Ms Sarah Palin.
An now a new reality show
The Apprentice to be Vice President.

Mr. Trump would sure win and he would not have to spend money for trying to get into office, everyone already does know who he is and would like to see him and his beautiful wife in the White House. The change that this united States of America would see if mr. Trump was President, he should try to be the President, I am sure he would win.

The hair piece is really irritating.

And hearing about how he helped send 5 boys with no violent criminal record to prison (for 14 years) for something they didn't do turns me off. He's a complete looser.

Did you hear what happened to him in the EU. NoOne except the Tbaggers and Welfare Alaska Sarah like him.
